SWE BLOG SERIES 1: MEET A FEMALE ENGINEER

  • Position/Brief description of role:

Michelle is currently a Sales Engineer at Molex. She is located on-site at GM (her main customer) so that she is able to support their daily activities. She works with them on existing projects, as well as contributes engineering input on new applications.

  • Tenure at Molex:

Michelle has been at Molex since 2008. She started as an intern from Oakland University in the design engineering group. Since then, she has held the position of design engineer, and now, her current position of sales engineer.

  • Major Projects/Contributions within Molex:

While in engineering, Michelle helped to support the MX150 system (in-lines and twist-lock). Currently, as a sales engineer, she supports the infotainment segment at GM and she is deeply involved with the launch of their next generation infotainment systems for vehicles.

  • What she likes best about working at Molex:

Michelle likes working at Molex because of the people she works with. Over the years, she has made many friends that she works well with, and can also hang out with outside of work. She feels that Molex also does a good job of giving opportunities for team-building activities outside of work.

  • How she’s managed her work/life balance while at Molex:

The way she has managed a work/life balance so far in her career has been a learning experience. The first year in her sales role was very stressful and she struggled to find the balance. However, as she has gotten more experience she has been able to get a better feel for what must be done today versus what can wait until tomorrow. The problem is that there will always be work to be done, so you’re never completely caught up. She does her best to put in good hours at work and prioritize based on her goals.
